Daddy’s Coming Home
Danny, my oldest, ’cause it was God’s plan
You’ve always been strong and done what you can
Giving your mommy a helping hand
You’re getting big like your daddy and becoming a man.
Yanely, my princess, my one little girl
The day you were born brightened my world
Your daddy sure loves you with love that will last
I’ll show you real soon, cuz I’m coming home fast!
Isaak, my baby, like the last little pup
I can’t wait ’til I see you and pick you right up
We’ll have so much fun with your sister and brother
And we sure won’t forget your beautiful mother
To all of you three and your mommy too
Your daddy sure loves and misses you
With lots of big hugs and kisses I blow
I’m sending my love and I hope that it shows
’Cuz I love you from the top of your head to your toes
From your wiggly feet to the tip of your nose
And though I’ve been gone for far too long
I’m sorry I left—Daddy was wrong
I can’t wait to hold you each, oh, so tight
To love you and tell you stories at night
I’m coming home soon, and together we’ll be
I thank God up above you’re my family.
Time
You’re makin’ changes; you gotta brand-new life
Growin’ and bein’ the best of you inside
’Cause no matter what the world throws at you
You’re gonna overcome; you’re gonna get it done
’Cause this is your time—it’s your moment to shine.
And nobody knows just what you feel … like you do
And nobody cares about all of your dreams … like you.
So press in, work hard, don’t quit or give in.
Be strong, be brave, and keep on fightin’
For all you’ve ever wanted
And all you’ve ever needed
Is comin’ true … yeah, it’s comin’ for you.
Some days the trials seem to pile up high
And nobody cares how you feel inside
Just remember that—no matter what you do
You’re gonna overcome; yeah, you’re gonna get it done
’Cause this is your time—it’s your moment to shine.
And nobody knows just what you feel … like you do
And nobody cares about all of your dreams like you.
So press in, work hard, don’t quit or give in.
Be strong, be brave, and keep on fightin’
For all you’ve ever wanted
And all you’ve ever needed
Is comin’ true … yeah, it’s comin’ for you.
(Electric guitar solo: Verse Melody then vocals)
… You’re gonna overcome; yeah, you’re gonna get it done
’Cause this is your time—it’s your time to
Press in, work hard, don’t quit or give in.
Be strong, be brave, and keep on fightin’
For all you’ve ever wanted
And all you’ve ever needed
Is comin’ true … yeah, it’s comin’ for you.
(Slowly) For all you’ve ever wanted
And all you’ve ever needed
Is coming true … yeah, it’s comin’ for you.
Piano Recordings
As I prepared to participate in Daddy’s memorial service in January, I recorded a few songs on a small keyboard in case they were needed. I also threw in a couple bits of fun as I fooled around to get my bearings. The pieces were just what came to mind as I stood in front of the keyboard in the prison’s empty chow hall, brief improvisations that I hoped would be a blessing however they were used. Now I’m sharing them in hopes you’re blessed (or at least slightly entertained) by them. I’m grateful that I’ve been able to play the keyboard for church at every one of the seven prisons I’ve been at these past nearly thirteen years. Thus, if you get anything from these…praise God!
